This proposal at the iconic Skogafoss waterfall in Iceland is so otherworldly. Luc reached out really early about the thought of proposing to Kayla in Iceland on their summer trip. He’s my fiance’s childhood best friend. And so it quickly turned into a trip for the four of us! All centered around the moment he would ask her to marry him.
Iceland Adventure Couple and Elopement Photographer
Luc wanted to propose on their trip and we planned it during the midnight sun, a phenomenon in Iceland where it stays light almost the whole day! He proposed around 11 pm, in hopes of there being less tourists at the Skogafoss waterfall. As an adventure couples & elopement photographer, I love to help couples find locations that match their vision for the wedding day, or in this case proposal! We went over tons of different areas in Iceland trying to visualize what the moment could look like. Some potential elopement / proposal locations were Hveradalir, a geothermal area with insane colors located in the highlands of Iceland, Reynisfjara, the famous (and dangerous) black sand beach, andJökulsárlón, a blue lagoon with massive icebergs next to the famous “diamond beach”.
We orchestrated a whole practice couples shoot ahead of time to throw Kayla off and get her comfortable with being photographed. We took some pre engagement photos at Iceland waterfall, Gullfoss, the day before. And then on the actual proposal day, it started to rain for the first time since being there. Due to the rain, all the other tourists had left Skogafoss. So, we had the entire waterfall to ourselves for their proposal. By the time he actually got on one knee, she was genuinely so surprised and we all started crying! It was incredibly emotional to see two close friends get engaged, matched with one of the most amazing landscapes in the world.
Skogafoss Waterfall for an Engagement or Wedding
Hidden away on the southside of Iceland, Skogafoss is not just a natural wonder but also a breathtaking backdrop for couples seeking an adventurous, epic elopement or wedding! In the summer months, Skogafoss is surrounded by endless fields of purple wildflowers, called lupins. Skogafoss is a main tourist attraction. So it can be busy, thus having your wedding or elopement here during a weekday is a great decision.
Skogafoss up close is SO misty and rainy. We were all soaked by the end of it. If you are considering exchanging vows for your wedding ceremony at Skogafoss, you should do this on the grassy banks beside the waterfall or on the viewing platform. As an elopement & wedding photographer, I take all of these things into consideration when helping you plan your wedding day in Iceland.
If you and your love are looking to celebrate your engagement or wedding in the beautiful country of Iceland, I’d love to meet you. There are so many rugged, beautiful locations & landscapes to experience. Reach out using the link below to start planning your day in Iceland!
