You'll need a NYC marriage license ($35), applied for online through the City Clerk's Project Cupid portal, with both partners appearing together for a virtual or in-person appointment. There's a mandatory 24-hour waiting period after it's issued, and the license stays valid for 60 days. If you're dreaming of a park ceremony — Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, or beyond — a permit is only required for groups of 20 or more or if you want to reserve a specific spot (a standard NYC Parks permit runs about $25 and should be applied for at least 30 days out). NYC is also unique because it has larger public spaces, like Central Park's Conservatory Garden, that can accommodate up to 100 guests if you're having a bigger celebration! Spring (late March through April) brings cherry blossoms and soft, long afternoons — it's the most photogenic season and books up the fastest. Fall (September and October) offers crisp air and golden foliage throughout the parks, while summer means warm evenings but bigger crowds and humidity to plan around. Winter has its own kind of magic, from snow-dusted streets to the Rockefeller Center tree, and it's a beautiful season to lean into cozy, moody indoor venues.

There is so much to do in New York for your wedding weekend! Walking the Brooklyn Bridge at sunrise or wandering DUMBO's cobblestone streets is an unforgettable experience on its own. My favorite spots to explore include the High Line, Central Park's Bethesda Terrace, and the view from Top of the Rock. Grab coffee at one of the city's countless local spots, and if you have extra time, couples often extend their trip with a day in the Hudson Valley or out to the Hamptons.

Most couples will have an officiant, a florist, a hair/makeup artist, and a photographer (that's me!). From there, you could have a cake baker, a caterer, a musician, or even a vintage car for transportation between locations — the ideas are limitless!
