There’s something about the Colorado mountains that makes every photo feel like a scene from a love story. The wind in your hair, the soft light filtering through the trees, and those epic views that just hit different. For Hannah & Will, the Flatirons were the perfect backdrop for their boho mountain engagement session, and their style and energy brought the whole shoot to life.

If you’re looking for a spot that’s equal parts iconic and effortlessly beautiful, the Flatirons in Boulder are it. Located just outside downtown Boulder, this ridgeline is known for its dramatic slanted peaks, expansive meadows, and golden light that rolls in as the sun starts to set.

The Flatirons Vista and nearby Chautauqua Park are go-to locations for Colorado wedding photos and engagement sessions because they offer so much variety in one place—open fields, mountain views, tall grasses, and forest edges. Every angle gives you something a little different, which is why it’s one of my favorite places to shoot.

We caught golden hour just as it started to dip behind the peaks, and the way the light wrapped around the mountains made everything feel soft and surreal. It was the kind of light that makes everything look like a memory—even when you’re standing right in the middle of it.

Hannah & Will showed up in the most effortlessly cool, laid-back way—both in jeans, boots, and easygoing layers that totally matched the mountain backdrop. Their style felt authentic and relaxed, like something you’d wear on a slow Sunday hike or a road trip through the Rockies. Nothing overdone—just comfortable, casual, and completely them.

They’re the kind of couple who make photos feel natural without even trying. They moved together so easily—laughing, exploring, leaning into each other like it was second nature. We wandered through the grass, chased light, and let the session unfold without too much posing or direction. That kind of ease makes the magic happen.

The energy from this session carried straight into their wildflower-filled wedding in Kentucky later that year, and getting to document both parts of their story was such a dream.

Located just minutes from downtown, Chautauqua Park is one of the most photographed spots in Boulder—and for good reason. The Flatirons create a jagged, dramatic backdrop that looks unreal in every season. In spring, the meadows fill with wildflowers. By late summer, you get tall grasses and golden tones. And in fall, the changing leaves add a warm, moody vibe that’s perfect for engagement or elopement photos.

Early morning sessions here are calm and glowy, while sunset brings out that iconic soft light that turns everything golden. If you’re thinking about eloping or just doing a mountain session for fun, this is one of the most stunning, accessible places in Colorado to do it.
